SEE MAKS BERGANT'S
WORKS IN PERSON
Maks Bergant’s most prominent and largest works date from the period between 1960 and 1990. It is unfathomable how the master’s hands managed to carve and gild such an immense number of frames for paintings and mirrors, candlesticks and chandeliers, sculpt so many angelic heads, and restore many old carvings. These works have found their home in Slovenian churches and in family homes across the former Yugoslavia, Europe, and America. Bergant’s greatest works remain, as the author liked to say, “permanently exhibited” in churches, oblivious to the undeserved anonymity of their creator.
May this be a starting point for further studies of the master carver’s work, and a compliment to a life dedicated to beauty.
